A very hot Monday! Taking the dogs for a walk down the beach road.

July 29, 2012

The weekend of family family family continues. My dad's nephew Mike and his wife Jody and their 2 kids Luke (6) and Juliette (4) came out to the lake to spend the day with us. These are the little cousins from the photo a couple days ago. We hung out in the boat all day, wake surfed, tubed, and had a(nother) bushpie dinner and roasted marshmallows for dessert. Juliette and my dad got into a bit of a marshmallow fight. It was a jam-packed and mega fun day, but needless to say, we 5 Marios were ready for bed a lot earlier than usual tonight.

A classic Mario sibling photo.
Today was wedding 2.0 for my cousin Katie and her husband Kyle - they got married last September in the US where they live so Katie could stay in America! The big celebration with fam and friends was tonight and was in typical Saskatchewan fashion, in the big red barn at Sherwood Forest. Even some of their friends from Utah (where they live now) made it. We danced, we drank, and had a damn good time!

Yikes, super late in posting this one! It's been a jam-packed weekend of family, family, family! Friday night we headed to the Aunt and Uncle's in Lumsden for a wiener roast, and of course for some rough housing with the little cousins, because what's a Mario family gathering without some tackling...? Ali, Mom and I then headed into the city to cousin Katie's for her "pre-wedding party." Wouldn't choose to spend a Friday night any other way!

July 26, 2012

Had to stay in the city for the THIRD night in a row - the most in a row, in fact, since I moved back. Had a long night at work and am right back there in the morning. So tonight's post-shift wind down was spent on the back deck at home, wrapped up in a blanket, beer in hand, typing up a long email to my far away friend Amy.
I miss being social...

This here, dear people who look at this blog, is downtown Regina at 5:30pm. I kid you not. Where's all the peeps at?!? GAH!

July 24, 2012

YIKES! I never thought I'd be so...superficial? vain? consumeristic? as to post a photo of shoes that I've bought! But I struggled today for a photo. Just one of those kinda days where nothing seems "photo worthy." Well anyway, I had extremely good shoe luck and purchased these today. You see, I don't often have shoe luck. My feet are the size of an infant's. And finding grown up shoes in infantile sizes is a treacherous adventure. These beauties were not only my size (5!), but they were also on sale. I also bought them for (pretty much) the sole purpose of going with that dress in the background there, which I will be wearing to my cousin's wedding this weekend. If I have to wear heels, these are the ones for me...earth-toned, braided, wedges.

July 23, 2012

Had a very Saskatchewan/beach dinner tonight...bush pies. Some cheese, pizza sauce, a few veggies put between bread and then put in the bush pie maker (as seen in the fire) = the best food known to human kind. It was also followed by s'mores for dessert. Oh how I love living at the beach!

Britt Matt Ali.
Tree posing.

July 21, 2012

A bit of a windy day at the beach, but a real hot one, so a swim was definitely necessary to cool down.
Got me a new seaweed 'do ;-)
Ali and Funk liked it.
Don't worry, I showered before work.

July 20, 2012

A Friday night off and I haven't the first clue about what there is to do in Regina. After asking around a bit, the general consensus was "not a lot." So Ali and I hung out at the beach for the night, drank some beers, took Matt wake surfing, listened to fun music, and ate Dad's famous stove top popcorn.

July 19, 2012

A smokin' hot day here. Worked for a few hours, made some money for the ol' South America fund, and headed out to the lake for some fun in the sun! I was in this here boat from the time I got out at 3:00 until 8:30. We also had a pretty big crew out today - that's Auntie Lori, Jason, Funk and Mom on the back and Carmen, Ali, Brooke, and Matt (and not in the picture Dad, Kyle, and me of course).
Friends and sun and drinks and fun!

July 18, 2012

I thought split shifts while working in North Vancouver were kinda sucky...then I moved back to Regina. Had my first split shift at the new restaurant today. For those of you who have never been to Regina, well, there's NOTHING TO DO EVER. I take back all the times I whined about working doubles and taking a break and "having nothing to do," like looking out at the ocean or the mountains or sitting in a beautifully serene park or walking around a market.
Today on my couple hour break I ran one errand to keep myself busy and came home and played the piano for a while. On top of the piano sit a few pictures. I took a photo of this photo because it makes me giggle how cute we are. That's my gramps there. And I think Matt's got to be 3, Ali's 5, and I'm 7 (I'll double check with Mom later) ((Edit: double checked with Mom - Matt is 2, Ali 4, me 6)). But for some odd reason I have such a vivid memory of this EXACT moment. Even what shoes I'm wearing! I like it.
[Quick side note: The reason I post this photo (of a photo) is because at the end of the day I thought to myself, "Oh NO I haven't taken a photo today." (Which is my worst fear ever, by the way) So I scrolled back through my phone and discovered that I actually had taken this while piano-ing today...PHEW! And what a gem.]

July 17, 2012

Came into the city and ran errands with the mother all day. We were in London Drugs and I found this coffee and it made my heart yearn for my old neighbourhood. How I miss it so.

July 16, 2012

I know this is repetitious - my photo yesterday was a seagull on a rock. BUT this is a whole new day and this little guy just happened to want to be a model today also (it was OBVIOUSLY the same seagull, duh).
You know what's cool about living on a lake in a rainstorm? You can be standing on the deck, dry, looking down the lake, watching the rain coming down the lake to you, and the next second it is POURING and you're soaked. It's actually a pretty neat thing. We've been getting a lot of rain here lately but somehow it doesn't bother me. Perhaps because I lived in the rain for the past 5 years. I'd like to say that helps.

July 15, 2012

Even a crappy weather day at the beach is better than a good day in the city. Got to play my guitar, sort some photos on my computer, snap a few photos (more of the dogs of course), read a bit, have company for dinner, and just plain ol' chill on my only day off of the week.
This little guy was hangin' out on the rocks out front. I shall name him Seymour. Seymour the seagull.

July 14, 2012

GAME DAY! And an exciting game it was! Final score was 23-20 for us (it shows 0 on the screen because for some reason the photos of the jumbotron didn't work on my phone). It was so ridiculously loud in the 4th quarter. There was bench banging and yelling and booing and it was AWESOME. Rider Nation was stoked, needless to say. Our green team made us proud this afternoon.

July 13, 2012

I had a brutal night at work. Basically I just sucked. Screwed up one billion times. I was sad. Been missing my old job in Van a lot and all of the people. And it was a very late night so I had to stay in the city. So for the first time since I've been home I sat down at my piano and played...all sadness and frustration melted away and I was able to go to sleep a content human being!

July 12, 2012

Dad and I took a sunset cruise to Regina Beach to fuel up the boat. There were many great photos to choose from tonight (because I took out my big good camera finally) - one of the yacht club sail boats, one of the dogs being hilarious together on the boat, another of the sun literally sparkling on the water. But this one is just the cutest and I couldn't resist sharing it.

July 11, 2012

Today I woke up to crackin' thunder, flashin' lightning, and pourin' rain - a full blown prairie thunderstorm! I must mention that it was also 30 degrees and extremely humid at 10am. There was no other choice, I had to wear shorts and had to keep my feet dry. It was just practical! The result? Me looking like a dork. I don't think most people in Regina dress like this when it rains on a hot day...because I got lots of strange looks. Fortunately I don't give a rats ass.
(And I wanted to ask them how their wet feet were doing or if their pants were nice and sweaty yet. Hahaha)

July 10, 2012

Canola field .com
My drive from the lake to the city. A sea of yellow and a sky of blue.
Oh and it's smokin' hot. Broken air conditioning on a 35 degree day while driving on the highway SUCKS.

July 9, 2012

A perfect evening for a boat ride and a glass of wine. Life is good.

July 8, 2012

GAME DAY! First Rider home game of the season. We reunited with our usual season ticket section friends. Wasn't the most exciting game but we did come out on top with a big W! Definitely looking forward to being here for the entire season. First time in 5 years!

July 7, 2012

First big day on the new boat! Matt wake surfing up a storm.
Oh how I love summer.

July 6, 2012

Oops, I got kind of behind in posting! It's because I got a job and I've been busy being employed and whatnot. And also I try and soak up all the sun  I can at the lake before I have to go into work, making my time spent on the computer extremely limited. I do not, however, ever fail to take a photo for the day even though it is late on here. My family can attest to that probably, because most mornings one of my first thoughts is "I wonder what I should take a photo of today..."

Anyway, this one is kind of boring. I had soaked up the sun all day and went into work in the evening (for my first shift serving at Crave). My dad had his staff party out here at the lake so Ali and I drove back out from the city after working our respective restaurant jobs. Chillin' in the kitchen here.

July 5, 2012

Another dog photo. Just like the sunsets I'm sure dog photos will be plentiful in the next while.
This is Teasha and she's a bit mental. She fetches rocks from the water - she spots one, puts her head under, digs it out, brings it onto the sand and rolls around on it, and then takes it up onto the dock. By the end of the day there are at least 10 rocks on the dock, no word of a lie. It's a hilarious sight to see really.

July 4, 2012

Introducing Jet - the latest addition to the Mario family. Well, as of a few months ago...but this is his first appearance on the ol' blog. He's just so cute and sleepy!

On a total side note, I think because I reached the half way point at the end of June it may be time to switch up the layout and appearance. Stay tuned...

July 3, 2012

Today marked the end of the "I just got home so I'm going to do nothing/all around unhealthy eat and drinking/easy cottage life bubble." Drove into the city and right into reality - unpacking and job searching (why do I feel like I'm always job searching?!). Also had dinner with the siblings at The Freehouse. Matt told me I take too many photos like this. But I couldn't resist...check out the table! You know you're in Saskatchewan when the Rider logo is on tables at restaurants.

July 2, 2012

The last day of the long weekend bubble. It was a sibling hang out day: swimming, driving to Silton with bass pumping in Matt's jeep, milkshakes from D's Place, laying in the sun. Matt and I also sat on the deck and made up a song on the guitar that was 100% outrageous...something about being in the sun, having fun, needing beer, being sweaty and the dog eating puppy chow. I know right?! We're weird. I bet our neighbours loved it...

July 1, 2012

Happy Canada Day! This is a float that was part of the annual Kannata Valley Canada Day parade. It takes place on the main road just behind the cottage. We also decided that next year the Marios are going to have a float in the parade.

Choosing this photo actually took a while because the sunset tonight was phenomenal...honestly one of the most interesting I've seen. But knowing that I'm going to want to post every beautiful sunset, I went with the patriotically appropriate one.

June 30, 2012

A classic Saskatchewan sunset. I have a feeling there will be many of these this summer. It's hard to see this and not want to take photos of it and show everyone (especially anyone who has ever made fun of Saskatchewan) how incredibly beautiful it is here. The weather was smokin' hot and the day consisted mostly of sitting in the sun. But the reality of not having a job yet still kinda sat in the back of my mind...
